ABSTRACT
Hybrid Approach to Certify Aviation Maintenance Technicians

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology became the first to offer an FAA certificated Airframe and Powerplant program delivered partially online. The roots of this program began with the 2008 Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee (ARAC) recommendation for distance learning, culminating in the development of an FAA working group in 2014 that developed guidance material for Aviation Maintenance Technician Schools (AMTS) and finally the launch of Spartan’s program in January of 2016. The Hybrid AMT program has revolutionized the delivery of Ab Initio technical training and has opened the door globally to students wanting to obtain FAA certification.
