Dr. Christian Popp, Chief Customer Officer, MINT Software Systems US Inc.

Dr. Christian Popp has 25+ years of aviation experience in various departments, disciplines, and roles. In 1996 he began his airline pilot career and since has held multiple positions in pilot training, flight operation, and process improvements.

His current role is Chief Customer Officer at MINT Software Systems (USA). He also consults on operational effectiveness and human factors in flight operations and training. With extensive work experience in competency-based training, he has given lectures on AQP/ATQP and Flight Safety in the United States, Europe, and Asia. In his studies, he focused on the Human Factor centric method to interpersonal communication and workload balancing in the workplace. Dr. Christian Popp is also a scientific cooperation partner at the Institute of Human Factors (www.institut-hf.de) and founding partner of oneTeam-Consulting LLC.


Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges

Technology moves faster than our imaginations can keep up with, and it’s quicker than ever, which makes it difficult to predict what the future will bring. We should remember that upon inventing the airplane, even the Wright Brothers were skeptical of its potential. “No airship will ever fly from New York to Paris,” said Wilbur Wright. “That seems to me to be impossible.” Yogi Berra describes this predicament as, “It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.”

Every 12 to 18 months, computers and information technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) double their capabilities. AI aims to improve computer functions, which are related to human knowledge, for example, reasoning, learning, and problem-solving.

The presentation will take a critical look at the potential of AI and encourages robust discussion on the following questions:

• What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
• What will AI mean to the aviation industry and aviation training in particular?
• How can we prepare ourselves and our organizations for the onset of AI technology?
• What will AI mean for our workplace?
